Genesis 2

The Seventh Day, God Rests

And the heavens and the earth were finished, with everything that was in them.
On the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he ceased on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.
And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he ceased from all his work that creating, God had done.

The Creation of Man and Woman

This is the history of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made the earth and the heavens.
Before any shrub of the field was in the earth and before any plant of the field had sprung up (for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth), and there was no man to till the ground,
a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.
And Yahweh God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
And Yahweh God had planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Yahweh God had made every kind of tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food to spring up from the ground, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four headwaters.
The name of one is Pishon. It winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold,
and the gold of that land is good. Bedellium and the onyx stone are there.
The name of the second river is Gihon, it winds through the whole land of Cush.
The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it runs east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
Yahweh God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to work it and to care for it.
Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “From every tree of the garden you may eat, yes, eat,
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you must not eat from it, for in the day that you eat from it you will die, yes, die.”
Yahweh God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper corresponding to him.”
Yahweh God had formed out of the ground every animal of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called each living soul, that was its name.
The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every animal of the field, but for Adam, there was not found a helper corresponding to him.
Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept, and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at its spot.
And Yahweh God built the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.
The man said, “This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of man.”
This is why a man will leave his father and his mother and will join with his wife, and they will become one flesh.
They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
