So Abram went up out of Egypt, he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev.
Abram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
He went on, making and breaking camp from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the first, between Bethel and Ai,
to the place of the altar that he had made there earlier. Abram called on the name of Yahweh there.
Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
The land was not able to support them while they were living together, because they had so many possessions that they could not live together,
and there were quarrels between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were living in the land at that time.
So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between me and you and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, because we are relatives.
Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right, or if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”
Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well-watered, as you go toward Zoar, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt. This was before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.
So Lot chose the plain of the Jordan for himself and Lot traveled east. So they separated from each other.
so Abram lived in the land of Canaan and Lot lived among the cities of the plain and moved his tent near Sodom.
Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against Yahweh.
After Lot had separated from him, Yahweh said to Abram, “Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north and south and east and west,
for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your seed forever.
I will make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that if a man could count the dust of the earth, then your seed could also be counted.
Get up. Walk through the land, through its length and its width, because I will give it to you.”
And Abram moved his tent and went and lived by the oaks of Mamre that are in Hebron, and he built an altar to Yahweh there.
